Member Agency Fact Sheet
- Council member agencies are public or private not-for-profit corporations serving all 67 Alabama Counties.
- Member agencies employ approximately 5000 professional and support staff which serve approximately
135,000 Alabama citizens each year.
- Member agencies provide a comprehensive array of programs and services that are fully certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation.
- Member agencies have been the key resource in enabling the State of Alabama to reduce the population of state mental illness hospitals from
almost 7,000 beds in 1970 to just
over 1,200 beds in 2005.
- Member Agencies have teamed with mental retardation centers to reduce the population of Alabama's State Developmental Centers from 2,200 in 1970 to
approximately 200 in 2005.
- Member agencies save the taxpayers of Alabama millions of dollars each year by providing cost effective, community-based services that enable consumers to reside in their respective local communities.
